To continue my post last week regarding the advancement of emerging technologies. I learned in this course that there are many emerging tech that is already out there aside from AI, gamification, blockchain and what not. But have you ever wondered why some of this tech is not progressing or even used by us? Here's what I realized. There are many factors that makes emerging technologies challenging to predict considering the vast possibilities, continuous innovations, and complex influences that affects the growth (or regression) of a new technology or breakthrough. The success of an emerging technology heavily relies on the complexity of the technology itself, the consumer behavior and user acceptance, and the rapid pace of innovation that often outstrips the society’s understanding and integration capabilities. We have seen many breakthroughs attempts and innovations throughout the years but not every development has been accepted by the society or supported by the industry as the...
With almost more than a month left in the course, I’ve confirmed that emerging technologies and breakthrough innovations in terms of technology can be a huge game changer in different industries. Most often, the company’s innovation and technology capabilities reflect their companies’ growth and stability in the market. However, the advancement in emerging technologies can be affected by societal norms and acceptance of the users/society as some would still prefer to do things manually or traditionally, which then hinders them to explore and adopt new tools/technology. Although these technologies can be a great tool in productivity and provides convenience, there are still some reservations on fully utilizing it, or some find it risky and unpredictable which may further cause business disruptions. For instance, many managers continue to prefer in-person meetings rather than embrace the emergence and convenience of having virtual meetings. Some employees would still prefer to have m...
In designing our evaluation tool, I also searched for vendors or solutions provider company that is offering Learning System Management (LMS) as their product. I was amazed that most if these vendors has already integrated some of the emerging technologies available in their products to further enhance its features like AI, gamification and social learning. Nowadays, corporate training and digital education heavily rely on learning management systems (LMS). These platforms enhance the learning experience and simplify the process of administering and delivering courses. To keep up with the competition, leading providers like Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, SAP Litmos, and Cornerstone OnDemand have evolved by incorporating innovative features. I would to share some of my research below including the vendors and their LMS products. Blackboard stands out in both K–12 and higher education, offering AI-driven tools, tailored learning paths, and analytics designed to support student success. It e...
In our class, we were instructed to research emerging technologies that we could incorporate to address the business gap identified in the first assignment. On my part, I was able to find vendors or solutions providers that offer Learning Management Systems (LMS) with the incorporation of emerging technologies: Artificial Intelligence (AI) ·       AI driven systems or software have the ability to analyze user data in order to design and tailor customized learning paths for individuals. That way employees, at Mustard Seed can easily access LMS materials tailored to their job roles, skill levels and preferred learning approaches.   Cloud-based learning Platforms ·         Cloud based education platforms empower companies to educate staff in subjects conveniently, across multiple locations like The Mustard Seeds sites in Canada. Having locations makes it challenging to implement a training program for employees...
In continuation with last week's blog about how I came up with my evaluation tool, I would like to share the five (5) criteria I have chosen concerning selecting what emerging technologies software platform can address the needs of the business to implement a centralized learning management system (LMS): Criterion 1: Features and Functionality   This is a qualitative criterion that considers the features and functionality of the LMS in terms of providing content management, reporting/analytics, customization, certification management, and positive user experience. This criterion holds 35% of the weight in choosing the proper vendor. This determines the capability of the vendor to provide the primary purposes of having a centralized LMS. Criterion 2: Scalability This is a quantitative criterion that considers the flexibility of the platform to increase the number of users/employees as well as the number of courses and related materials (training videos, PowerPoint, pdf, infogra...
Last week in the Emerging Technologies class, we designed an evaluation tool to test and measure possible emerging technologies and their ability to close the identified business gap we came up with during the first week of the course. In my case, the identified business gap is an organization's lack of a Learning Management System. The organization needs a centralized learning platform for its employees despite having an identified list of training required for each worker/staff. They only have a list of identified training requirements per staff (depending on their role). Still, there needs to be a tool that provides a platform hosting all appropriate training materials and resources that the employees can easily access. Having a centralized learning management system (LMS) would be ideal to ensure that every employee has completed their required training materials, and it would be easier to track and report the training completion rates and training performance of the employees...
My name is Adrian Echano, and I am from the Philippines. Back home, I was a data analyst, mostly performing jobs related to economics (world commodity prices, price and supply of basic goods in the Philippines, trades, and policies on consumer protection, among others). When I came to Canada, I chose to study Information Technology because, ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated with computers and how various technologies can do amazing things and help humans with our daily lives.  My areas of interest in Information Technology are AI, cloud technology, and hardware. Right now, my strength is more on the hardware since I have experience building my own PC and have some experience in troubleshooting. I want to develop my coding skills because I think this is my ultimate weakness when it comes to IT. For me to land my dream job in this industry, I need to have at least average knowledge and skills in coding. In our Emerging Technologies (INTP-301) class, I would like ...
